FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How long is the training and onboarding process with Muse Storytelling?
Training with Muse Storytelling runs 4–6 weeks consisting of mostly short video lessons, with the added support of live webinars and video calls. The lessons are meant to provide deeper insight into production, client communications, contracts, and branding as it specifically pertains to Four Seasons. Following the onboarding process, a Muse member will join the crew during production at a Four Seasons property, providing onsite support during 1–3 full productions for up to a total of three months.
Will my contract be with Muse or Four Seasons?
While the Four Seasons Film Academy is, in essence, a joint venture, Muse’s function is confined to the recruiting and onboarding processes meant to select and compare top-tier talent for a prosperous relationship with their contractor, Four Seasons. Four Seasons thus handles all work approval. You and your crew will sign a master services agreement with Four Seasons Hotel & Resort Corporate with terms lasting up to one year. Individual resort properties will create their own statement of work agreements with each crew and on a per-project basis.
About logistics, how long does a production take and with what sort of budget? Does it include travel expenses?
Productions range between one to four days, depending on the project, with budgets starting at 8,000 USD. Travel and expenses are NOT included, although hotel or resort lodging will be provided during the shoot plus food per diem. Flight costs and any location expenses are an additional line item to the property.
Do I need my own gear? Or does it matter what editing software I use?
The ability to effectively convey a story and evoke feeling vastly outweighs the need for any high-end technology, although a camera that can film 4k or above is the standard expectation. Approved examples including: Sony A7SII, Canon Mark C300 Mk II, all RED cameras, Fujifilm XT-3, and Fujifilm GFX100. For post-production, you may use the editing software of your choice, provided it can perform to the size and quality of the aforementioned footage, in addition to basic capabilities in color correction and sound design.
Are you only recruiting teams? Or can I apply alone?
We are specifically looking for film crews of 2–4 people. How you compile your crew is up to your discretion, be it your existing company’s full-time members or individuals you choose from a freelance pool. There is at least one application per crew that is filled out by their lead who must supply their own team.
How much creative freedom does working with Four Seasons allow? Are there a lot of logistical production details involved?
All productions must be on-brand with Four Seasons as indicated by the video lessons during your training. Beyond the essentials, all the more evocative elements of s of storytelling, aesthetics, and tone, not to mention the overall technical execution, will be determined solely by you and your team There is plenty of room for creative expression via lighting, movement, scene, and style, provided it falls within Four Seasons messaging and style. This is your production with your allotted budget, so all aspects of client pre-production, production management, travel, location scouting, and daily operational logistics are your responsibility. The public relations director at your given resort or hotel will assist you in connecting to the right locations and people on the property.
How many years of experience do I have to have?
We are looking for videographers with 5+ years of experience in directing and filming and at least 3 years of editing experience.
Does it matter what camera I own or editing software I use?
The most important aspect is your ability to tell a story and use your camera to create multiple feelings and emotions related to your story. That said, we are looking for cameras that can film in 4k or higher. Examples that are approved: Sony A7SII, Canon Mark C300 Mk II, all RED cameras, Fujifilm Xt-3, Fujifilm, GFX100. For post-production, your software must be able needs to have the capabilities to support the size and quality of the footage mentioned above, and basic color correction and sound design.
What kind of film background is necessary, and how many years of experience do I need?
We are looking for videographers with at least five years of directing and/or shooting experience and at least three years of editing experience. Well-rounded, experienced backgrounds can encompass the upper crust of commercial directors, to documentarians, to professional wedding videographers, all being equally eligible candidates, provided they have the skills and vision to the standards of the Four Seasons’ aesthetic.
Is this a full-time job with Muse Storytelling or Four Seasons?
No. This is contract employment between Four Seasons and each of the 12 chosen film crews that will last for a period of up to one year, with the potential for renewal being conceivably available at that time. Budgets begin at around 8,000 USD, and the terms of the 1099 agreements for you and your crew will be part of your production budget. Budgets will vary by project.
